What Is Transpersonal Creative Coaching?

Art Coaching is transformative client-centred counselling technique based upon creative expression. It allows for questions to be answered beyond the mind and ego and connects to the source of the concern. It provides awareness of the issue as well as tools that can assist with self-improvement. Creative is a holistic approach which incorporates mind, body, emotion and spirit unleashing the creative intuitive spirit within. This allows the mind to open up to kinds of healing seldom seen with other therapies.

Transpersonal art therapy assists in uncovering the reasons how these issues can exist within our psyche. Without the need to revisit or relive trauma, Art Therapy provides a creative avenue when words cannot be found. You do not have to be able to draw to participate as most revelations comes from symbols and meaning. They do not have to be represented in a elaborate fineart sketch though it can if that's what calls.

“Art is an articulator of the soul's uncensored purpose and deepest will.” - Shaun McNiff

What is Transpersonal Psychology?

Officially beginning in 1969 with the publication of “The Journal of Transpersonal Psychology”, the transpersonal continues to uncover the many layers of the human psyche and theorises how we function as physical, mental and spiritual beings. C.G. Jung described the transpersonal as “much the seat of our sense of ourselves and our place in the world as is science itself for it gave us a that we may, at any time, reach beyond the established boundaries of experience through which we navigate in our daily live to find new inspiration, new guidance and new direction as well as new forms of life to be born into the world and nurtured.”  - Jung

Transpersonal psychology differs from the previous forces of psychology; psychoanalysis, Behaviourism and humanistic in that it asks us to delve into our “psycho-cosmological sense of being”.  Closely linked to the existential idea of making individual meaning of one’s life, the transpersonal goes beyond everyday existence and looks further into phenomenological investigation of conscious experience. Viktor Frankl defines and refers to meaning making as not ultimate but rather understanding of events at a deeper level.

“Ultimate meaning necessarily exceeds and surpasses the finite intellectual capacities of man...

What is demanded of man is not, as some existential philosophers teach, to endure the meaninglessness of life, but rather to bear his incapacity to grasp its unconditional meaningfulness in rational terms. Logos is deeper than logic.”  - Victor Frankl

Birthed out of the limitations of third psychological force, the humanistic approach, the transpersonal draws upon the spectrum of consciousness outside of identity.  This permits the navigation beyond the ego to the collective consciousness and spiritual intelligence which provides healing.

The integrative approach sets the context of the transpersonal. Embodying all aspects of belief, attitudes and meaning-making, it also permits for the social ecological standing of human experience. Without this aspect, we would not be able to assimilate the meaning gained from peak experiences and other beyond ego significance. Ensuring that healing occurs within the individual in an exemplified manner, the integrative then becomes a way of living and being cementing the knowledge gained from beyond the ego and bringing about transformation.

That feeling of dread when you know your

Art is an act of the soul, not the intellect. When we are dealing with people's dreams - their visions, really - we are in the realm of the sacred. We are involved with forces and energies larger than our own. We are engaged in a sacred transaction of which we know only a little: the shadow, not the shape…

As artists, we belong to an ancient and holy tribe. We are the carriers of the truth that spirit moves through us all. When we deal with one another, we are dealing not merely with our own human personalities but also with the unseen but ever-present throng of ideas, visions, stories, poems, songs, sculptures, art-as-facts that crowd the temple of consciousness waiting their turn to be born. - Julia Cameron (The Artist's Way)
